In case you haven't heard, Of Montreal's latest album, Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? just leaked over the internet last month and it's nothing short of amazing. The majority of the album is pretty similar to The Sunlandic Twins, yet with a few more tightened screws in the production department and some surprisingly mature songwriting coming from Kevin Barnes (at least by Of Montreal's standards). Though the album's definitely signature Of Montreal, there are still a bunch of surprises, including the stunning Talking Heads-y closer (think "Naive Melody" on acid), the intensely urgent, 12-minute centerpiece "The Past is a Grotesque Animal," and no less than two Bee-Gees tributes during the album's back half. Look forward to more commentary after the album's official release in January.

On another Of Montreal-related sidenote, the band is almost constantly on the road and puts on a great show, so next time they're in your area, I'd highly recommended checking them out.
