Nostrarockus makes his Best of 2007 predictions

Hmm, since I don't think I've got 10 best 2006 albums to mention, (call me preoccupied and sadly outta the loop) but I'm feeling some cosmic energy going on when it comes to 2007 albums.  Believe it... or not:

1. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

These guys have been lingering around for awhile and have put out solid albums, and I think this is the year they top the lists.  That curious album title automatically gets them in the top 5 based on pretentiousness.

2. The Shins - Wincing the Night Away

It'll be a great album after some listens, though I'm not sure it'll top the previous two.  Still, they're evolving and it's possible the changes catapult them highly.

3. Radiohead - ?

Looking forward to it, doubtful there's anything close to resembling "Stop Whispering" on it, but it's inevitably going to be listed as one of the better albums of the year.  However, if it DOES sound like Pablo Honey some of us will be thrilled, though jimbo will likely throw a fit.

4. Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone

Boom!  These guys finally get their due.

5. Menomena - Friend and Foe

6. Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha

7. Ted Leo - Living With the Living

8. Devendra Banhart - Smokey

9. Courtney Love - How Dirty Girls Come Clean

This is my Browns-Defeat-the-Chargers upset pick, as I'm guessing CL's trials and tribulations get laid out tmi-style to grip everyone's attention.  Either that or she just flashes a boob.

10.  Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy

It'll be released and we'll be entranced by even longer rock ballads, Axl's new line of dread lock hair extensions, and the blazing "Hey Ya" single of "Pu Pu Platter for Two, $#@& You!".

i cannot comment at length for now, but i have to say that the new of montreal/shins albums are sososososo good. i'm pretty excited.

Although "Stop Whispering" is indeed an excellent song, "Lurgee" will always be my favorite off of that disc, with "Thinking About You" as a veeeery close second.

Ugh, Courtney Love. That last album was horrifying. Although I will never stop loving "Malibu," I am hesitant to expect great things from such a train wreck.

Keep the "Pablo Honey" slags coming... =)

you know what? a friend of mine played me the last song on Pablo Honey a few weeks ago (i seriously never made it that far in all these years), and that was some good stuff.

rest of album: still LAME.

Wasn't the last song the clean version of 'Creep'? Duuude.

Hmm, even I have to go on the books as saying that "Creep" is one of my least favorite songs of all time. Esp. the edited version. ("Creep" by TLC, however...perhaps one of the best songs ever recorded?)

I will still stand by Pablo Honey...some songs are bad ("How Do You?") and some unforgivably so ("Creep"), but "Anyone Can Play Guitar"? "Lurgee"? They're so good!

I'll stop for fear of having this dialogue turn into a battle of "it's so good" "no it's not."

How much fun would it be if Radiohead goes on a Creep/Bends tour? Granted, we'll have to wait until they're 50+, but I'd be there, $400 balcony seats and all.

By the way, I have had a listen to that Of Montreal disc and... well... hmm. Maybe it needs a few more listens.

Dude, I SAW them on The Bends tour...when they were opening for Alanis Morrisette in 1996. They played almost the entirety of The Bends and a little of Pablo Honey.

And then Alanis Morrisette covered "Fake Plastic Trees" and it was awful. I think that at that point Taylor Hawkins was not yet cool, and was drumming for her. What a bill!

I'll be right there with the $400 bleacher seats, btw...because of course it will be a Fenway Park-esque nostalgia tour. Of course.

"Dude, I SAW them on The Bends tour..."

My envy runs deep.
